a friend is letting me borrow her computer so i can try out linux. which one should i get? i hear about ubuntu a lot, is this a good idea for someone just looking to test things out?

yes, try out ubuntu. you may also want try out debian, and suse and sabayon.

if you're just looking to test linux out, grab a LiveCD (Knoppix is a good choice). lets you test without having to go through the hassle of actually installing anything to your hard drive.

if you're testing different distros you might want to try fedora as well.
