Recording directly from a computer

So... I was wondering if it is possible to record audio directly from the computer, card, audio input or where-ever. By my logic it would, seeing as there are video recorders that work in similar manner. Still, I can't find anything.

You have your audio out device, and an audio in device... so...

why the fuck would you want to record audio coming out of the computer... just set wave out to active and record in audacity...or are you still doing analog mix tapes lol
