Mouse double-clicking

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-04 1:35

A few days ago my mouse started double clicking when I only single click. This is actually a lot more annoying than it seems. I have stopped using my computer at times because of frustration when I am usually very calm and understanding of it. I am using Windows XP, and I just do not see what the problem can be. It doesn't always do it, just some of the time, probably about half, not in any order. It doesn't affect right-clicking, only left. When I switched them in the Control Panel, it still only affected the original left-click. It seems to me that I may have some software on my computer that is affecting this, but I don't know what it could be. Any help would be great.

QFT.  It's been around for years (pre-SP1, IIRC) and MS refuses to take responsibility, even though it's already been traced to a MS subsystem.  They've even said (roughly, I forget the exact quote): "You're stupid, you're obviously just double clicking and THINKING you're single clicking.  Learn to use a computer."  It wasn't Gates or Balmer who said it, but IIRC, it was one of the higher up techy non-PR guys. The only real way to fix the thing is to reinstall or get another mouse.  Pain in the ass, but that's Windows for you.

Try deleting the mouse in the device manager, booting without it, then rebooting and reinstalling it.

Don't change these.
