I was using my laptop a few hours ago when suddenly, during a scene transition while playing Tsukihime, a 3"inch strip appeared in the middle of my LCD screen. The vertical strip looks like it has higher gamma than the rest of the screen, and thus is really noticeable on dark colors.
I've tried restarting my laptop and turning the LCD screen off and on. The strip remains. I've outputted the video to a television via an svideo cable and the vertical strip is not there, so it's definitely the LCD screen. Everything is like 5 shades lighter in that 3" strip, and it's really annoying.
I'm about to take apart the screen and fiddle around the wires and whatnot, although I have no idea what I'd be doing. Help ;_;

Go ahead and take it apart. It's extremely unlikely you can fix it, and nobody else will either. LCD screens are minimally servicable at best, and the fix for one that isn't working properly is to replace the whole panel.

Put it in your freezer.

Take it from someone who has opened up and broken several things; don't do it. I once tried to "fiddle with" my broken PS2 and broke it in several more places than it had to be broken. I can only imagine it being a much worse case for something like a laptop screen. Just get it professionally repaired.

lol, so I opened it up this morning when I awoke. I tried unplugging the video cable held in place with adhesive. That killed the video output. White screen... meh, I expected that at least. When I tried putting the cable back, the strip was still there. But when I tried putting the adhesive tape to keep it in place, the video disappears.
In the end, I spent the rest of the hour fiddling with electric tape and the laptop case, trying to make it output the video properly again. Thankfully though, I managed to get the cable to sit in place and all the screws back in place.
So yeah, I'm gonna be heading down to The Source tomorrow since it's the nearest electronics shop around, just to get a quota. It's probably gonna cost a shitload and I'll end up just tolerating the damned thing.
