Borked Computer

I seriously borked my computer. I need help getting it to run again. Let me explain the situation.

I'm running a computer with Windows 98 SE. I found an old MS-DOS game that I felt like playing, so I started it up. It told me I would have to restart in MS-DOS mode, so I did as such. When it restarted, it went to through the normal start-up stuff, then to the MS-DOS setup blue + gray screen (The screen you would normally set up what sound card and video driver you have are for DOS games). To my annoyance, it had none of these things, the template was right, with the blue boxes on a gray screen, but there was nothing else, except for in the top-left corner the phrase "ALL.ASK MISSING."

I thought to myself "Oh, shoot, it won't run. I guess I'll restart and forget about it." I did restart, and to my dismay, it returned to the blue + gray with ALL.ASK MISSING.

I tried again, hoping that it was just some fluke. No, it returned to that screen. I restarted several more times in a desperate, but futile attempt to get my computer working. Any idea what I can do, /b/?

Oh, whoops. Typed /b/ out of reflex. What can I do, /comp/?

Sorry, I didn't know that. I don't think that insult was necessary.

That link really doesn't help, seeing as how I'm unable to even access the desktop.

Did you just hit the reset button? Try pressing Esc, ctrl+c, and/or typing exit if you get a command prompt.

(The Ubuntu link is useful because you can download an iso and use it as a rescue disk. But this problem should be pretty easy to solve without that even if the above doesn't work.)

Update. I am able to start my computer in safe mode. How can I make it so the program does not try to run when I start my computer?

Pretty please: GET RID OF WIN 98 SE !!! NOW !!! Even M$ admits that this system is a total utter bullshit piece of crap. Get 2K or XP and DosBox if you want to play DOS-games.

I do not have any other operating systems at the moment, but certainly would like to get a new one eventually. 98 SE works fine, this is the only problem I have ever had with this computer.

Don't change these.
