firefox's file selector is really slow

Name: Anonymous 2006-11-26 2:25

when i go to upload a file to 4chan, and i hit browse, firefox takes like 10 seconds to read my /b/ directory.  what's the deal?

Windows also sucks with large folders.
Solution: don't keep everything in one folder.

Use the KDE file picker.

LS OR GTFO

The GTK have a contest every few years about who can come up with the worst piece of shit common dialogues. Every time there's though competition, but the winner really excels.

GTK file chooser blows, is buggy, slow as fuck (try opening /usr/bin), scales pathetically, can't show other columns, can't be sorted, has shitty/buggy/useless/gotcha file completion, and is generally braindamaged in every thing.

Speaks the truth. Since 1.x Gnome's dialog boxes seem to get worse and worse with each release. Seriously, they even managed to make colour picking a pain in the ass.

I believe shitty common dialogs have become a meme in the GTK community. You expect them to be terrible, and every new release has a new brainfart for laughs and shits.

The "G" in GTK stands for GIMP.  True story.

You'd think someone would make a firefox extension for this.

I bet it can't be done

Name: Anonymous 2006-11-27 11:46

the file selector has NOTHING to do with the application, in this case firefox.
so what causes the slowdown is your shitty windows and/or system...
