Monitor Refresh rate

Name: Anonymous 2006-11-17 15:32

So, I've got an older monitor (2000 or so,) running at 1200x1024 resolution, 60hz.
The manual that came with it states that's the highest refresh rate supported for this resolution. Any actual harm in bumping up to, say, 75hz? Or even 85hz?

No because the monitor will refuse to try to sync to that. But it won't work. You can't overclock a monitor. Though you can do 1184×888 @ 75 Hz or 1600×888 @ 75 Hz with it, provided you have good drivers (as in, not ATI's). You'll want at least 80 Hz though, so I'll advise 1120×832 @ 80 Hz as the highest 4:3 resolution you use.
