firefox decied to update without my consent, loosing my bookmarks and resetting my homepage in the process. is there a way to get my bookmarks back?

Ok guys, dont fail me.

Some punk ass in my dorm is going to try and hack my computer over the LAN. I dont know much about protecting against this sort of thing, the only protection i have is mcaffee and norton. Will a personal firewall help at all?

and also, extra credit if you tell me how to fuck up his computer in the process. thanks. and have a nice day.

I love you 4chan

Firefox should have backupped your bookmarks in the Mozilla folder on your C: drive.

thanks for the reply anon, but i tried to find the backup file. i opened a file called bookmarks.html with the bookmark manager but it just brought up the generic ones it comes with. i dont know what to do at this point, theres only one profile on my computer, and if i make a new one they dont come back either

Do you have a folder called "bookmarkbackups"?  Look in there.

no, i have no such folder. the only thing related to that is a bookmarks.html in the defaults folder which im guessing is a profile

Did it TRULY lose the bookmarks and homepage (extremely unlikely, almost an impossibility), or did you just choose to make a new Firefox profile?

I've tried Opera, it sucks about as hard as IE.

I only time I lost bookmarks was when I was using Firefox 1.0.

Don't change these.
