/comp/ - Fucked up hard drive

My drive powers on an clicks repeatedly but isn't found at all in BIOS or any recovery program. This was after an electrical surge. How much would it cost to fix at the cheapest?

He's right (in this case). The head crashed most likely on the disk surface inflicting severe damage and I don't think there's much you can do about this. If even the BIOS can't open a connection to the drive anymore, you have pretty much permanently lost the data.
Try the drive in a different computer to be on the safe side, but it surely won't work. If there is important data on the drive send it to a recovery center - this is probably your last chance.
Then again you might want to contact the manufacture of the HD to get help from the people, who ought to know this HD best.

Actually in a power surge it's also quite likely that the drive's logic board has been fucked (I've seen the tops blown off of chips after a power surge). If that's the case, you may be able to recover the data by finding another identical drive (same make, model and capacity) and swapping the logic boards over. If that doesn't work, at least you've then got a replacement drive.
