repair install stalling

Okay so I need some serious help here. I recently upgraded my cpu to a dual core one and only one core was detected so I did a repair install. The problem is, the repair install process stalls at about 2/3. I tried doing the repair install with the hard disk in another comp, same result. Now is there a way to fix this? Or does anyone know if I can use a linux live-cd to manually perform a repair install of windows?

That is not an option either since what I want right now is to get the repair install to complete so that I can use windows again plus I have all my data on that hard disk which I do not want to lose.
