Hey, I'm new to the whole Linux thing, and I'm trying to install Ubuntu. I put the cd in, reset the comp, and access Ubuntu from the cd just fine, but when I go to install it, problems arise. Y'see, I just have one hard drive, and I have made it into several partitions. Three are for Ubuntu (a swap partition, a root partition, and one that I forgot why I made :/), and of course the fourth one is for Windows. I set it all up, the root partition is about 10 gigs, and the swap partition is 1 gig. But when I start installing, it'll go to about 50%-60%, then freeze. If it helps, my computer is an HP Media Center PC m1295c, has a 2.41ghz Athlon 64, two 512mb sticks of RAM (hell if I can remember what kind), a GeForce FX 5200 videocard (onboard), the hard drive is a Maxtor somethingorother (250gb), and any other information can be given if requested. Looking forward to any help I can get!

It could be that your DVD drive is a piece of shit. The shitty ones that Dell, HP, etc ship with low to mid-range computers have trouble "paying attention" as it were. Whether it's installing Windows, Linux, or even watching video DVDs, after a certain time period, it seems to forget it has a disk in it or something and just gives up. Get a new one. They're like $20 now.
Oh, and you did make sure to verify the integrity of the disk, right? And you burned it at as slow a speed as possible?
