Hard Drives! Thousands of them!

What methods could I go about using for hooking up about a dozen ATA hard drives simultaneously onto one single PC? i want to avoid using any internal IDE or external USB, most of them are used up anyway.

PCI cards, three or four of them.  Also, be sure you have a decent PSU.  IIRC, you'll need 10W per disk plus whatever your CPU, video, etc use.

Any easier ways than having to install extra PCI cards? Isn't there some way of utilizing a chain of hard drives and firewire or something else?

If the drives were SCSI you could. Daisy-chaining a dozen external firewire devices will cost you a fuckton of money; especially multi-drive configuration devices. Someone seriously needs to come up with a cheap, no-frills method of running several PATA drives.  And I don't mean a 10/100 NAS.  Maybe a 10-bay eSATA enclosure; with plenty of cooling like 4x120mm fans.

Fibre Channel or GTFO

Don't change these.
