computer fan (I think) making a noise

Something in my computer is making a noise, and I'm pretty sure it's the fan. It sounds vaguely like a cricket, only more metallic and not quite as loud. In fact you have to consciously listen for it in order to hear it.

My previous computer's fan eventually did this after a couple years' existence, too, and as far as I know it's still functional (although I haven't turned it on in like 8 months). So should I be concerned?

The fan(?) doesn't squeak/chirp all the time, either. Just occasionally.

Could be the dust in the fan or the hdd if its not screwed well to the case. It happened to me once
