I hooked up a new monitor to my old gateway window xp hunk of shit, and recently switched the cd drive too.
Thought I doubt those are the cause of the problem, because that's super basic shit, and shouldn't have caused this.
My computer is giving the screen for switching to safe mode, safe w/ networking, last working config, etc. Every time I select one of the options, it flashes the Gateway logo, and restarts, going back to the same "Safe Mode" screen. I think the reason for this is that my brother, after I hooked up his new monitor, went to change resolutions, and rundll32 froze. When it froze, he first told it to cancel (on the "This program is not responding" thing) and when that didn't work, he force shut it down. I think he killed rundll32. How fucked is my computer, and is there any way I can save the comp without a format? I need the files.
I have another computer I could hook the HD up to to get the files, but it's a last resort for me because being a Gateway, trying to remove that HD will take forever, because it's practically a part of the casing.
