okay, I have an 80 gig hard drive, but I have a computer that was made before 1999, which means, I may need a codec to be able to run any harddrive above 34 gigs... wtf?!

well anyway, my question was, is there a site to download the codec I may need? and are there different codecs for different computers?

Okay, you're a bit confused.  A codec (coder-decoder) is what is used to encode or decode a stream, such as text, audio or video.  Encoding is when you take a stream and turn it into a form that can be stored or transmitted.  Decoding is when you open the file for viewing or editing.  Look it up in the Wikipedia or soemthing for more information.

Now for your problem.  There are numerous things that impose size limitations, but the one you seem to be describing is an infamous, semi-artificial one imposed by Microsoft.  When creating FAT32 filesystems in Windows XP, you are limited to 32 GB (1024 * 1024 * 1024 *32 = 34359738368 bytes).  Are you trying to install/upgrade to XP on an existing FAT32 filesystem, or trying to create a FAT32 filesystem in XP?  If so, you'll need to use NTFS instead.  If you wish, it is possible to upgrade a FAT32 filesystem to NTFS without losing data, but if possible, you'll want to start with a clean NTFS install.
