Motherboard dead?

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-27 18:41

I just bought an EliteGroup K8M800-M2 with a Sempron 64 2800+

Everything's set up, and the board boots up fine, no errors. I get to the BIOS screen and tells me to press DEL or F12, but when I try to press them, the board just emits clicks and does nothing. I've tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards. Is the board borked?

this happenned to my computer when i first built it. although mine was an asus a8n si premium and an amd athlon 64 3200+

after a bunch of messing around, me and my friend discovered that the motherboard didnt like RAM i had dragged over from my old computer mixed in with the new RAM i had bought.

this was also where i first learned that there was more to RAM than just size.

but i'd double check your motehrboard manual first for compatibility with your RAM, hole that works.

good luck

Check that, it works now. Well, sorta.

Now that the disks boot up and all, it seems that somehow, the dsks that used to be hda and hdb are now hdc and hdd (in Linux anyway, I don't know what Windows calls them.) As a result, my OSes hang mid-boot. How do I get them back to the old labels?

Use the other IDE connector.  Primary (IDE1) is a/b, secondary (IDE2) is c/d.

I switched the IDE cables, and Linux is reading the drives as hda/hdb again, but Windows still gives the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error.

What now?

You are too stupid to build a computer, become an hero.
