It's a basic setup...10Mbit, plug an ethernet cable into the wall, my network card finds it and boom i'm on. Then i open IRC, times out, p2p times out, BT never starts...changing the ports, it does nothing! even apps that work on different ports. I was under the impression that firewalls block ports not protocols tied to specific applications :/
Google talk works, MSN works, WS_FTP works, my winamp updates my last.fm...
I have 3 options.
1. Tunneling (cons: expensive and complex, may not even work)
2. Move (cons: not really workable. Just moved to london and i don't know ANYONE or anything, so i'm in halls/dorms, also could get expelled/evicted.)
3. Find a way-around... (cons: could get expelled/evicted, otherwise fine)
WWYD?

To elaborate, I've been living here for just 2 days, if it wasn't clear from my post I can surf fine. I check the ports my firefox is using perfectly with something else, it claims they aren't open.
I'm currently being helped out by a very generous friend with Torrentflux so i can handle my torrent needs.

Most unis ban p2p from halls anyway so you're screwed even if you find a way to do that.
The firewall can block the port you're connecting to, so I guess anything connecting to other than 80 or 21 and whatever you need for gtalk, msn etc. is blocked.
You're in london, any unsecured/WEPed wifi spots around?

You poor thing. Most colleges block BT and most forms of P2P so just forget about those for now. Few of them block IRC as well. You really are unlucky, ending up with a lemon like that. That's why I always encourage people to check a school out before they matriculate, wink wink.

you can pay for tunneling. it's probably worth it.
