Path does not exist

So I've been trying to get these two computers to network SOMEHOW for months and nothing is working.  They're both running windows 2000, and they're on the same lan, using a split cable internet connection, and it's just not working at all.  I tried adding network places, blah blah blah, I even tried using Hamachi, but the same thing happens: "The path "#######" does not exist or is not a directory." 

I think it's the other computer, because on this one I can access my friend's using Hamachi, but I can't find any reason why the other computer can't accept network tasks.  Can anyone help me?

Thing is, it's not letting me access any files on the other computer.  They can see each other, but not access each other.  It SHOULD work, but it won't.
