Path does not exist

So I've been trying to get these two computers to network SOMEHOW for months and nothing is working.  They're both running windows 2000, and they're on the same lan, using a split cable internet connection, and it's just not working at all.  I tried adding network places, blah blah blah, I even tried using Hamachi, but the same thing happens: "The path "#######" does not exist or is not a directory."

I think it's the other computer, because on this one I can access my friend's using Hamachi, but I can't find any reason why the other computer can't accept network tasks.  Can anyone help me?

make sure the computers are on the same subnet and are using the same IP scheme. you should just be able to make a simple share on one computer, and then go to the other computer and type in \\computername into either IE or just windows explorer and the folder should show up for you to browse.
