My old HD with Windows XP installed on it died last year. I got a new HD, installed XP and started over but kept the old HD. I put the old HD into my computer as a slave drive and found I can access SOME files on it, but not the admin files on that HD even though it's a slave drive. It says I don't have access...so how would I go about grabbing the files from the My Documents folder on the slave drive?
to make it easy:
login on the admin account in safty mode
in explorer edit the preferences to NOT use simple file sharing.
after that, whenever you click properties on a folder/file you should be able to change permissions.
Now go and get the properties for your old documents folder, now explore the permissions tab and find the button that leads too some ownership settings, delete the old and add yourself as the owner.
Now go back to the permissions tab and add whatever users you wish to allow acces to.
also, this does not work on home edition, if you got that, get pro or hire a pro.
