TEAC CD-W58E magically disappears!

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-10 20:27

Okay this is getting frustrating. I recently reinstalled XP, installed it just fine from my CD drive (as in subject, it's a TEAC CD-W58E). But now the drive isn't recognized in Windows. The drive opens when I hit the button, lights flash and everything, but I get nothing. I can't find any drivers to download, it's just supposed to work with XP. The only thing I've been told is to go into My Computer, right-click on the CD drive icon, and uninstall/reinstall driver. Problem is I don't GET a CD drive icon. I get nothing. Device manager shows no CD drive. I can't find anything for CD drives in Add New Hardware. The hardware's configuration is exactly the way it was before the XP install (and it worked fine before), exactly the way it was while I was installing XP from the CD.
What the fuck? I'm sort of at a loss here.

C'mon, please?

is the drive recognized by the bios?

Shit, I feel like an idiot now.
Well, I went and checked BIOs again and saw it wasn't recognized, wouldn't boot from the XP setup disk, so I went to check the hardware again and looks like somehow the connector on the motherboard had gotten the tiniest little bit loose somehow.
Pushed it back on and things work fine now.

I'm an idiot, thread over, thanks
