SITUATION: A game freezes, then what?

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 2:38

A game freezes and stop responding, but OS and background programs are still running. So typically, if you can get out of the game and back to the desktop everything will be fine. But, how the fuck do I get back to the desktop? I tried CTRL+ALT+DEL, ALT+TAB, and ALT+F4 but nothing happens. I know the Task Manager pops up when i press CTRL+ALT+DEL but it not in focus and there is no way to get to it. Therefore I am forced to fucking reboot even though it was not a hard freeze. WTF???

deleting the system32 folder will make it so your games wont freeze.

I hope you're not stupid enough to do this; if you are, you deserve what you'll get

Bind Windows calculator to a hotkey or something. Typically, starting that will give it focus and get you back to the desktop. Or if you know any programming, write something to kill the game and bind that to a hotkey.

Oh, also, it sometimes works to just press enter when the game freezes. This is because it pops up an error message (with the Ok button in focus) but you can't see it because the game is in front of it. After pressing enter the game should immediately terminate.

Hotkeys, Windows+D, Ctrl+Shift+Esc opens taskmgr.exe and you can Alt+Tab to it if it's not on the foreground (it should be), Ctrl+Alt+Del then close your session could help too.

Don't change these.
