Ok, so first of all my graphics card is a Geforce 6800gt. Lately, for inexplicable reasons my entire computer locks up while I play graphic-intensive games. It just started happening recently. games such as Starwars battlefront II, megaman x8, FEAR all freeze after anywhere from 5-30 minutes of play. (I can manage to ctrl-alt-del out of mmx8 and neither my vid card or cpu is overheating). To make the problem even more puzzling I still have absolutely no trouble playing half-life 2, HL2:ep1, CS:S, starcraft(lol grafix), and prince of persia: warrior within.
So in order to solve this problem I figure something must've gotten screwed up with the vid drivers. Now here's the thing - I had the 3rd party omega drivers installed previously (installed them awhile ago to fix a Chronicles of Riddick:BB system crash issue). So now I have the offical nvidia forceware drivers installed again. Since the problem is still there its making me think that because of my frequent uninstall/reinstalls of vid drivers from different sources (I must've installed the offical forceware like 2 times prior -> omega drivers -> offical again) that there has to be tons of junk data left in the registry - possibly screwing something up.
so finally my real question: is there a program/method that allows me to ensure I'm making a clean install of the drivers and removing junk data from the registry that could possibly be causing the problems I mentioned. The only way I see to really fix my issue is to reformat...but thats a pain in the ass when you would need to back up quite a few gigabytes of media files, programs, etc to DVD.
I know this ain't exactly a techsupport board but... until one is created this is really the only place I can think of to try and get a quick answer.
-thanks ahead of time, any insight would be appreciated.
