Ok, I recently bought a Lite On SHM-165P6S dvd burner, but the ps2 and xbox copies I burn with them are shit - I think it's because the drive has a minimum writing speed of 4x, both in Nero and in Alcohol.
Is there some way to change this? I already applied the DR16MS0P firmware update.
read/writing speed should have no effect on the output data. it's just how fast the drive can read/write. what do you mean exactly that they are shit?

Not true. When dealing with fiddly formats like console games burning speed can and does have an effect on the reliability of the disc at the end of it. The console can be fussy about the media and the burn speed. Don't ask me why, maybe it's how well-defined the burned "pits" are, instead of just "good enough".

"Border Wars"
The movie that the Bush administration doesn't want you to see.
Heard the director of the movie today on the radio. He is a Republican from Washington D.C.
Constant movie, sound- and loading skipping, longer load times, often lock-up of the console. Didn't happend nearly as often with my old burner at 1x speed.

I burn all my DVD's at 16x and never have any problems on my ps2, DVD player or ECKSBOCKS.
My suggestion?
Quit using tinfoil as a writing medium and move along to some kickass disks that don't retail for fivebux-a-thousand.
Protip: lite-on/acer burners are notoriously made of fail and aids. burns on any medium tend to be shit.
Expect the CD burning capability to die within the next few weeks, this however improves your DVD burning drasticly for about a month befefore the drive WILL catch fire.

And what the Anonymous recommends? Samsung WriteFailure? LG's MultiShit? Or what?
True, original LiteOn sucks balls, but 5min search in intarbut and you are good to go with much better firm.

Burner: NEC ND-3xxx or ND-4xxx
Discs: Taiyo Yuden ONLY. (If you can't find unbranded Taiyo Yudens, get Plextor, or Verbatim PastelDisc (not ColorDisc).)

First nd-3xxx series sucked ass. Then, in the middle of the pack it started to pick up the pace. I do not know how well nd-4xxx series work.
IMHO Plextor roxorz most other burners.
And yes, Taiyo Yuden is good but then again, sometimes even the greatest fail.

The ND-2500A was the best burner of its generation, rivaled only by Plextors (considering burning quality/error rates). Did the 3xxx gen fail? I supposed they'd keep the same quality.
