Using bad RAM

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-28 2:12

Aside from stability and corruption problems, what's the worst that can happen if I use Patriot-brand RAM that yields ~30+ errors according to MemTest v3.4, Memtest86 v1.65, Memtest86 v3.2?

The RAM causes BSODs on only 1 of my 3 boxes, and "seems" to run fine on the other two.  What exactly am I putting at risk if I continue to use it?

Basically just what you said... crashes are imminent, stuff will get corrupted (and possibly recorded to your HDD that way, possibly leading to file corruption there), at worst maybe hardware damage from improper data being sent to certain devices (specifically I'm thinking video, sound and maybe network cards).

This isn't enough problems for you to stop using it?

Does it still give memtest errors on the two boxes it "runs fine" on?

I've yet to notice any data corruption on the other two boxes, and neither of them have had a single BSOD.

Yeah. Can hardly run the 1st box for 5min before a BSOD occurs, so the other two boxes are where I've been testing (w_bootable floppies).

I've a feeling the module I have has been purchased, returned, and reshelved a number of times...

Don't change these.
