I'm trying to install Windows XP

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-16 21:01

...On an old HQ computer from 1998 and it simply will not work. It was previously running windows 95, so I had to install another stick of RAM (256 MB). The next thing I did was set up a 200 GB HDD as a slave drive to format as and change to my master drive once I got it to boot up.

Now the darn thing won't boot up! I have the Windows XP cd that came with my Dad's newest Gateway computer, and I put it into the cd drive but it won't boot from the CD. What's going  on?

Don't use Windows XP?

And use a 16-bit OS? No thanks.

>>1 the Windows XP cd that came with my Dad's newest Gateway
you sure that ain't a restore/recovery cd?
PROTIP: check boot order
SPOILER: your '98 mainboard does not support drives larger than 137GB (LBA)

I'm positive that it's not the restore cd.

I have no idea what you mean by "boot order"

Does this mean my motherboard is fried?!

Lol, as it turns out, my CRT monitor is broken. Now all I need is an old CRT monitor off of ebay and a 100 GB HDD and I'll be in business!

Thanks for the help, guys!

Don't change these.
