Norton Removal. :/

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-11 23:08

Dear Computers,

I am forever plagued by Symnatec's Norton products. Anti-Virus, Personal Firewall... You name it, those damn programs are causing trouble on my computer. Thank my mum for getting them installed in the first place.

I'm trying to remove them because they cause too much problems with my computer; I have trouble installing games that connect to the internet and even signing onto the internet in general is a gigantic hassle.

But every time I remove them via Add/Remove Programs, certain sites are blocked and certain programs from access. i.e.- Gmail, MSN... The only way to access the stuff that was blocked, I have to system restore a day back and have everything be reinstalled. :\

I personally feel there's remnants of Norton bullshit floating around my computer causing this -- I gave a wild guess that it's in the registry, but I don't know for sure.

Also, I tried using Symnatec's Norton Removal Tool, and it killed itself in the process and simply didn't finish what it started. I've tried this multiple times and it isn't doing anything further.

:\ Any and all help of removing this stupid thing would be beyond appreciated. Thanks in advance.

after you do the normal removal, just delete the registry.  you shouldn't have any further problems

Safe Mode? You're using SymNRT? In your place, I would simply nuke and reinstall. I haven't touched a Norton product since Win95 because of this. I can't find any real solutions. It's like a virus no one is willing to detect.

Nuke and pave may, unfortunetly, be your best bet.

pave meaning regedits, right?

Thing is, he's never done it before, and we're both kind of nervous about him doing it, as you can really fuck things up.  I could probably do it, but I happen to live a couple states away!  So, would any of you, perhaps norton users, or ex norton, know where to look, and what to delete?

Try clearing out your DLL cache (C:\WINDOWS\System32).

Don't change these.
