I noticed my Dell Inspiron laptop was running very very hot, so I went and downloaded "Speedfan." Speedfan doesn't list my CPU temperature for some reason(maybe it can't find the right sensor?) but it does list two things:
HD0: 54C
Temp1:60C
Now I've been told that if your computer is running 50C, that's too hot. What the fuck! I'm thinking that I'm gonna take apart my laptop and get a bunch of dust out of it. Is it possible that "Temp1" is my CPU sensor? Is there anything else I can do to make my computer not run as goddamn hot?

That's not too hot for a mobile CPU.
My current CPU idles at 53C, and has occasionally gone up to 90C with full load.
No, there isn't too much you can do about it, other than frequency locking.

It is quite common for notebook computers to run at high temps. They don't have much space inside the case, big fans or very many fans. If you are very concerned about CPU temp, make sure you buy an intel centrino. It shuts off parts of the computer to conserve power and produce less heat.

well, I ended up just opening up my laptop and cleaning it out. There was so much hair and shit under the keyboard....
I got one of those compressed air cans and shot it backwards through the heat sink, and the air was instantly filled with dirt.
The worst part was when I shot the air through the bottom of the computer and a dust bunny bigger than my thumbnail came out of the heat sink/fan chassis.
My computer is now idling at 40C. I think....problem solved.
