HELP!!!! MY HARD DRIVE IS DEAD

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-04 23:26

Well, My hard drive was just fine until I created a 4th 40 gig partition on it and then some of the directories on the primary partition got trashed and it kept getting worse, so I backed up everything that I could and then created another partition on the drive (all of the other partitions on the drive were just fine up until that point) and then suddenly it started seeing 137 gigs on the drive and the other parition was gone. Now Partition magic 8 and windows both see the drive about 200 gigs again, but the new partition is unhidden and I can't UNHIDE it and the primary partition is getting worse. Is there ANY way to FIX these paritions instead of just trying to get the data off of them because GetDataBack didn't work and
the last time I tried using NDD and NDD32 on another drive, I got the partitions back, but the directories, graphic files, Zip files and rar files were all useless and I don't want to try to use it on this one. I don't have any other drives bigger than 20 gigs, so I REALLY need to fix the paritions on the 200 gig drive so I can back by my files.

Please help.

>>1 but the new partition is unhidden
You mean hidden, right? Invisible to XP, since it's not formatted?

Determine whether the 137 gig limitation is hardware or software. If software, upgrade XP to SP1 or greater or google EnableLBA fix. If hardware, flash mainboard BIOS or HDcontroller BIOS or...

get a PCI HDcontroller or a external USB enclosure that supports drives greater than 137GB. Until you address that 137GB limitation, XP will continue to barf when trying to read past the 137GB mark. And it'll keep scheduling scandisks and fuxxoring directories and moving data to folders called "found.###". So, in reality your drive is not dead and you can still get your data.

Dibs on the magnet if it's toast for good.

It's software. THe hard drive WORKS just fine, it's just the data that's messed up. And the strange thing is only the data on the first partition is messed up, I mean besides the partition that is now INVISIBLE FAT32.

Parition Magic can't make it visible again

PS. I have windows 98

HD sucks sure there's Parity Magnet but it's a buggy piece of crap, it doesn't recognize all my partitions, and it's closed source, which means that it's a BINARY PACKAGE!!!!11

Windows 98? Fat32 sucks for partitions bigger than 32gb anyways. Go get yourself some more RAM and install Win2k. Then use disk management utilities in Win2k to get your partition table straigtened out.

There is no help file.

The files in the folders have been replaced with gibberish characters.

you want real help. Download WindowsXP.  Google for it.  find a torrent of it, burn it to disk and install onto drive. convert to NTFS. problem fixed. FAT32 is crappy and bugged, (so is NTFS, but much less than fat32, and supports up to 2terabytes, if memory servers) just don't go dynamic. and your main problem is fat32 cannot support more than 4 primary partitions.

Opera sucks sure there's an ebuild for opera but it just get dropped to /opt, it's statically linked, and it's CLOSED SOURCE, which means that it is a BINARY package.
