XP freezing when large files copied

Often when I'm dumping CDs into ISOs or copying large files, my computer will just freeze completely, with no warning. And this has already been happening with several different hard drives I've tested, so it's not the HDDs. What is wrong here?

The problem is Windows fucking sucks at scheduling disk accesses. You might try reinstalling it, in case something got fucked up, but I would say just get a real OS instead.
