if you use media player classic, you can just do File > Save Image
in zoomplayer, there is a button for screenshots somewhere

okay, now I'm getting a "GetCurrentImage, failed, hr = 8000ffff" Error..any suggestions?

how do I go about disableing hardware acceleration? as in where do I go...and yes, I know I do indeed fail at this little segment of computors...grr

Try VLC. VLC always works.

At this point the directions I give you will vary depending on your graphics card and drivers. I would suggest poking around until you find the word "acceleration" and uncheck the box next to it. :)
