Whats the deal with rapidshare?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-23 4:30

People still use rapidshare, which is fine. However I always see people complaining about rapidshare too. Then I see these programs that are supposed to get you past the rapidshare wait garbage and they don't work. You would think with all the complaining people a program that works would have come out by now. Just thought that was strange.

I'm not advocating getting past rapidshares security measures...

I thought it more odd that people use Rapidshare period.

I think it has to do with the type of people who ask for help how to use rapidshare, and then ask why Windows Media Player won't play these RAR movies they just downloaded.

I find these types of people mostly around obscure porn fetish forums (not necessarily obscure fetishs, just forums). There's one forum that has people uploading their single 100k jpegs on Rapidshare.

There are a number of programs intended to automate RS downloads and minimize waiting times through scheduling, but they never work for long. RS simply increases\modifies the security level of their download access codes to thwart programs from reading them.

As to why people continue to use RS:
very reliable speeds as compared to other free storage sites.

Megaupload's speed is comparable.

but it's hardly reliable (fluctuation/timeouts)
SU can have some crazy off-peak speeds

Sendspace hasn't been too bad whenever I've downloaded something from there.

Gigashare has been pretty sweet for me.

I've had problems with it. However I like their folder layout.

Don't change these.
