Hi i have a problem

My PC Shuts down completly literally random.. at any time, like imagine turning off the power, that kinda shut down

now i cant switch back on till ive turned the back switch off, and had it off for a few seconds then press the power button

i think either my power supply is messed or motherboard

things to investigate: loose cables, dust, overheating

If you've got a pre-built machine like Dell or whatever, I'd put my money on a failing power supply.  It's the most common thing I have to deal with at work.  Get yourself a nice Antec PSU.

Hi.. im not entirely sure

ive had the system built from scratch its

AMD Athlon 64 3500
2GB Ram
Geforce 7600 GT
400Watt PSU.. Silent at times

im guessing the system needs more.. power..?..

just.. it shuts down completly at random you know like flicking the back switch equivlant

when it does i need to press the switch on the PSU wait a few secs, then switch it on then turn the computer back on again, its weird and annoying when it happens at night when im tired

il take a look at these.. see if theres any thing that can be improved

thankyou

This does indeed sound like a PSU problem.
Remember that the 400W is probably not "real" Watts.

First, what brand is your PSU?
Second take a look and see if you have active or passiv PFC (should tell on the side of the PSU).

Don't change these.
