RAM Problem

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-10 21:44

Hello!

I just bought a stick of 512MB Kingston RAM. My computer already had a stick of 128MB. Both modules are Kingston, PC2100 (133Mhz). After installing the 512MB stick and turning on my PC, all I get is a blank screen on my monitor and a beeping noise. The beeping noise lasts a few seconds, goes silent, and then beeps again. I tested both RAM slots with the 128MB stick, and everything worked properly. I think it's the 512MB stick that is causing the problem.

Any suggestions as to why it's doing this and how I can possibly fix this?

Thanks.

check your motherboard specifications. it may not be able to support sticks that large. this is unlikely though.

more likely, the 512mb stick is dead. try it in another computer if you have one that will take sdram. if it works ok, then the stick is fine and its just not compatible. if it doesnt work, then the stick is probably dead and you should get your money back.

OP here.

It doesn't work with just the 512MB stick. I get the beeping noise. I should also note that the 512MB stick has the black rectangles in the front and back and the 128MB stick only has them on one side. Both seem to be DDR though. Thing is I bought it on eBay.

Fuck fuck fuck

Sounds like the 512 is borked.

It's most likely a bad stick.

Don't change these.
