Wireless range extension

Is there a way to extend my wireless range without buying a new antenna?

I'm running a notebook with a built into the montor antenna.  The wireless card is by Intel and after looking around briefly I have changed to netstumbler as my prefered wireless software (for now).

I remember seeing wireless extenders, which were separate antennae that you could place around the house to extend the range. They also have outdoor-safe versions. I know it's not what you asked for, but there isn't much you can do otherwise, I think.

No worries, I figured it was a hopeless question.  It'd probably be overclocking a miniPCI device, which just sounds rediculous.

You can sometimes increase the broadcast power of your wireless router (if you have a good one) by using third-party firmware. Rarely can you increase the power of the wireless card in your notebook. But, theoretically, if you jacked the power of both the card and router by 10% you would get an almost 10% range increase. However, even if you did this, you would decrease the overall performance of the network because jacking the power like that will increase transmission noise.

Don't change these.
