64bit

i just got a computer with an AMD Turion 64 bit processor, and all of a sudden alot of my favorite programs don't work. i can only assume it is because they have compatibility problems with this new 64bit proc.

for example, when i install/try to run ISOBUSTER, i get an "invalid floating point operation" error. i also get this error when i run pretty much any installer.

what can i do to stop getting this error?

Are you using 64-bit Windows as well (I assume you're using Windows there)? That can be a bit flaky.

I have BSD installed, but i need to use windows for work, so i end up using windows 24/7.

Why the fuck would the company who made my PC ship a 64 bit processor without a 64bit OS? This fucking sucks. But you're saying if i install windowsx64, my problems will go away? Will i then have compatibility problems with 32bit applications?

if i remember correctly 64bit edition was supposed to be able to emulate 32bit code things, but this in my experiences didnt' always work right. the biggest problem for me was actually getting drivers that would work

you are a friend of mine

you should go to frys and pick up one of their 150 dollar special boxes and install windows on that, and use that for the windows apps you need

NEVER, EVER, DUMP YOUR BSD INSTALL.
i will come and fuck your ass up

This is likely not the processor. Try running memtest x86, let it go through test 5 like 50 times. Make sure the HDD doesn't show any SMART errors. Check for bad sectors. See what errors windows reports in the system error reporting service. When you get that error in isobuster.

If you don't have a 64 bit OS, you don't have to worry about 64-bit compatability. On a 32-bit OS, all drivers and software will run 32-bit.
