Unfinished torrent working anyway

Anyway, I downloaded a torrent earlier, and it didn't start right away, so I cancelled it and started a new one, since I'm extremely impatient.
I went to delete the folder for the old torrent, and decided to try playing one of the files (it was a music torrent, to clarify), just for kicks to see if it worked. Well, it does! The songs are playing all the way through with no skips and without cutting off.
I'm not complaining, I'm just curious: does anyone have any explanation for how music that didn't even BEGIN to download, let alone FINISH downloading, is working?
