Something is wrong with my computer. It wont update to SP2 for some reason. I've tried letting my computer do it by itslef and I've tried downloading it right from Microsoft's website, but I keep getting the same problem.

The insilation goes fine until the end, when its at like 98 or 99% done, then I get this little backs that pops up and says something to the effect of:

Access Denied

Then the intall cuts off and I get a box saying something like:

Instal failed, you computer may not work right now

Then I need to go back and use a restore point to fix my comp. I'm on an admin account, so I have no idea why I'm getting accsess denied.

I DO I UPDATED MY COMPUTER?

Slipstream your installer CD with SP2 and reinstall Windows.

He wants to tell you that you should copy your win-CD with Slpstream and atch the CD itself. So if you install Windoze, you are completey updated.

I'd do a repair-install first any try installing SP2 again. Could save some time...

I'm using the factory disk that cmae with my computer some 5 years ago, is that alright?

And a repair-install would fuck over any of my files would it, or would I need to back everything up first?

I remember trying to reintall a while abcl, it corrupted everything on my HD and I had to get a new one.

are you running low on disk space?

any repair or even reinstall (without reformat) will only clobber the WINDOWS directory, not anything in any other directory.

>>2 here.

http://www.nliteos.com/

1. Get your old disc and copy the contents to your hard drive. 2. Download the network installtion of XP SP 2 (Full version no web installer crap)
3. Use nLite to slipstream SP 2 onto your old disc's contents.
4. Create .iso
5. Burn .iso
6. Boot off of your new SP 2 disk
7. Reinstall or repair Windows.
8. ???????
9. PROFIT

Still, I'd rahter not take the repair route. You're going to lose your application associations in your registry. Backup and to a clean install.

Don't change these.
