Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 10:15

I wanna see whats the most popular firewall of 4channers is.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 10:30

iptables

Sygate Personal Firewall was made of win and good (and completely free) until fucking Symantec bought it out and killed it. www.oldversion.com FTW.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 12:08

Sygate is meh, its too easy to block things, like your internet browser.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 12:12

None. why should I?
No running services = no open ports.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 12:13

Which is exactly the ONLY purpose of a personal firewall.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 12:19

don't mix up those personal firewalls with real ones.
REAL firewalls are a concept and not a single program. they include port-filters, packet-filters, content-filters, ...

netlimiter 2 pro is what i use when i need a process-based firewall on windows (prevents windows from calling home nicely and way better than zonealarm)

i'm setting up a linux system as a internet gateway, and i'll be using iptables/route all that good stuff when i learn how

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 14:02

I also use the old version of Sygate for Windows. Otherwise it's just OS X's built-in firewall. I wish it had more features like Little Snitch though.

Uh, isn't that the whole point of a firewall? Sygate defaults to "ask about something I haven't seen before, or that has changed since I last saw it" rather than taking matters into its own hands. And it shows every process that is accessing (or trying to access) the internet and allows you to change its permissions at a click. I like knowing exactly what my firewall is up to and having that level of control.

uh I use a wrt54gl

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 17:04

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 17:51

I imported a Japanese router. It's a bitch to configure because it's all in Japanese, but it's the very best quality, I believe it makes my anime torrents go faster.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 22:18

Zone Alarm Pro cracked

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 22:51

>>22
something ironic about cracking something to use as a firewall...

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 3:19

None here also. Connection goes trough 2 routers which do adequate job at keeping anything out that's not supposed to come in and keeping anything that's not supposed to go out from doing just that is easy.

Yes, japan is superior

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 9:04

>>23
not really. i trust cracks with my security software, so long as I know what the sauce is and other people have experience with it.

besides: ZA doesn't need to be cracked - serialed. Might as well be freeware, for all the shit is.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 10:11

WRT54G and Norton interwebs security.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 17:19

56K IS BEST FIREWALL
NOBODY HACKS A 56K

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 17:45

That's actually not true, I've had my ISP account stolen before. 56k is safer though because it uses a dynamic IP and you should be safe while you are offline, but
PROTIP: you can turn off any modem.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 18:08

Sygate Personal Firewall Pro

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 19:19

PROTIP: you can unplug any ethernet cord
PROTIP: you can disable any ethernet interface from any decent os

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 19:22

PROTIP: Uninstalling spyware and rootkits is annoying ;)

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 20:22

I use Zone Alarm, cracked for Pro

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 20:27

>>33

Or did I just need a serial?  I don't remember.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 22:43

Does Sygate (pro or otherwise) only track your PC? Or can it be set up to watch your whole LAN?

Don't change these.
