Cheap way to extend Wireless Antenna?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 4:40

So is there a way? Instead of buying a longer new one.

Like using a tin can or something, anything thats do it yourself?

Aluminum tennisball cans work well, specifically: those ones for old people, that are bigger and softer than normal tennis balls. The container they come in works better than some of the more expensive range extending antenae.

There was an article about this in Popular Science magazine awhile ago and I gave it a shot. It DOES work but don't expect it to work wonders (boosted the signal in my room from very good to excellent)

1) Get a large shoebox lid
2) cover it in aluminum foil and bend it in an arc (make sure the foil is as smooth as possible and doesn't "bubble" up at all)
3) cut 1-2 semi circles (that have the same radius as the shoebox arc and...
4) glue (or attach somehow) those 1-2 semicircles onto the lid so that it stays curled
5) cut a hole through the semicircle supports...one small enough for your antenna (see where I'm going with this)
6) slip it over your antenna and aim towards your target

**this only helps in a single direction

-I'd send you a picture because you would know instantly what to do but I threw mine out awhile ago when I bought a new wireless G router (right in time for the new N series to come out...lucky)

Don't change these.
