If you scour hardware forums and eBay, you could probably get one, but it'll take time to find the right deals.

don't do it. you'll just end up disappointed. if you want a good gaming computer, it's a waste of money making such a low budget. gaming computers need quality parts. i'd say expect to at least pay $600 at minimum

also, do research into your motherboard before you buy it. i found out the hard way the just because a motherboard has certain features DOES NOT mean it actually runs well. google around to see how it performs in opengl and directx. just a tip, don't buy ASrock. that's the motherboard i'm using right now. the features were right, but it gets really shit framerates in opengl. it SHOULD perform much better than it does. i have an athlon 3800+ 2.4g, 1gig ram, geforce 6800, but i got like 30 fps average in Enemy Territory running it on minimal setting. i had all the drivers installed, the motherboard just didn't work well with it. a new graphics card driver was released that has increased my performance, but i should still be getting better performance than i do.

be wary when it comes to motherboards. don't just look at their price. your motherboard/processor can really make or break your setup

Yes, if you play nothing more demanding than original Quake. If that is true, go out and get a cheap Pentium/Pentium2 (or equivalent) with like a TNT2 Riva or a RagePro.
Modern games? $200 is a budget processor, or high end of budget graphics.

Not a complete system. Never heard of the companies making those parts, can't guarantee it doesn't catch fire, etc.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-29 0:30

OP here

ok then someone recommend me a decent motherboard with pci-e that is under 100

are there any decent opteron boards out there with pci-e?

What's the difference between X2 and Opterons?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 9:09

X2's are Opterons that still work but couldn't pass the tougher quality control tests.

you just don't get it. YOU'RE NOT GETTING A GOOD MOTHERBOARD FOR UNDER $100, ESPECIALLY IF IT HAS PCI-E

STOP BEING SUCH A CHEAP FAGGOT AND ACTUALLY LISTEN TO WHAT WE'RE SAYING

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 21:22

don't think about building your own gamging PC if you don't have the money to do it, chump

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-30 22:52

PROTIP: GET A CONSOLE

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-01 9:39

"decent motherboard with pci-e that is under 100"

ASRock 939Dual-SATA2. If you consider that decent.

motherboards cost about $50 if they have AGP, about $70 if they have pci-e, about $120 if they have PCI-E SLI, and about $150 if they have onboard gigabit lan and SCSI

Motherboards are cheap as fuck

A "cheap" motherboard is like a twenty dollar motherboard. You can get quality for $50-$70

Onboard SCSI? Lawl.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-02 9:10

you can get a shitty asrock mobo for $30 that screws already after 2% overclocking.

4 days ago i purchased the parts for my new comp:
celeron d 336 2,8 ghz (will be exchanged in july when intels core 2 duo cpus arrive) - 50 bucks
asus p5w dh deluxe - 200 bucks
2x 300gb sata2 hd - 200 bucks
2gb ddr2-667 ram - 150 bucks
ati x1800gto - 200 bucks
plus case and cpu cooler - 70 bucks

im quite suprised that the celeron works still fine since i overclox0rd it to 3,6 giggahurtz D:

yeah, there are some desktop boards with onboard u-320 scsi controllers and even pci-x interfaces (asus P5WDG2-WS for example)

anyways, depending on your definition of "good gameing pc" you wont be able to play recent or older games with mid-low details for a $200 system :|

When is this exactly?
No, quality is like $70-200. Onboard SCSI? PCI-X? Where are you buying? Those are only common on server-oriented motherboards SCSI is usually used for fast HDDs, and the PCI-X is usually used for RAID cards, both of which are server-machine oriented. Onboard gigabit ethernet is common even in cheap budget boards. I never use it because it wastes CPU resources. Unless you have dual core, you'll have better latency with  PCI NIC.
Oh, and celeron IS irrelevant now. If you need cheap performance, go with a Presler 930.

$600 Is about what it would cost to build a BUDGET gaming machine. Get a job.

Don't change these.
