Interweb Sharing

A real noobish question, I know.

I currently have a small network happening in my room; a desktop PC and a laptop and both running XP.

I have my adsl modem plugged into a switch, along with the PC and laptop... I'm getting net with my PC, but not with my laptop. However, my PC and laptop can talk to eachother, share files and crap...

What could I be doing wrong?

How many IPs can you get from your ISP? I can get 4 at the same time, so using a switch 4 stations can get an IP/access to the net. If your ISP only gives you one IP, it won't work with a switch and you need a router.
