Linux n00b

Ok, so, the only OS that I've worked with is Windows and would to try Linux but since I've never worked with it I would like to know what's the easiest version of it, and if it's worth it. Also, suppose i would like to turn back to win (format the linux partition), can it be done without any changes with the file system (convert it)?

Please enlighten me.

PS:yes I know, I'm a n00b.

stick to windows. Linux isn't worth the hassle.

linux is worth it, but it's best to put it on a computer that's not your main box if your primary concern is video games.

The best setup IMHO is to have two machines. One running Windows and Cygwin-X and the other running your linux of choice, and have Cygwin-X connect remotely to the linux machine. Just fullscreen it to your second (or third) monitor and you have some nice cross-platform integration.

Or just use the VM Ware-Player, download an Image, and try it (or format the virtual HDD and install your own).
Or try a LiveCD, though I think they suck hard.

No, I don't give a shit about games...that's not a concern :)

And yeah, that would be best but I've only got one PC.

I've got WMware player but it requires config files like... [url=http//imageshack/...

I've been searching for a VMware Workstation with no luck. The trackers I found have 0 peers.

i don't know what distro is the noob-friendliest now, since i don't use noob-distros anymore, but i heard good stuff about ubuntu. fedora should be nice too.

if you don't play games there is no reason not to use linux btw.

Some cd-runnable versions could be good for testing stuff and getting to know linux, like knoppix for example.

go with >>10
And then after you get used to linux you can use fedora or something.

give it a test run with a distro called Knoppix, it will run straight off of cd, and can be installed by typing the following commands before boot

login: knoppix 2 (places it in runlevel 2, text only no network)
knoppix-installer (i think, could be install-knoppix, or knoppix-install)
