Antivirus suggestion

Is there a good antivirus software besides norton and macafee?(both of those two aren't good)

I'm having a devil of a time with norton and I'm just sick of it spamming me and reconfiging itself all the time. I tried macafee along time ago and it instantly had to go. Panda looks interesting, But I want your oppinion.

I binned both of the above and now use AVG - it's free and doesn't use every resource I have to run.  Oh yes, and it can actually detect viruses.
Run time for full system scan - Norton = 1 hr 35 min, AVG free = 32 min

kaspersky/nod32 are the only decent AVs I know of.

I decided on doing the Zonealarm firewall and NOD32. So far I really like what I've seen. I never knew how much symantec was a pile of inefficently coded crap.

Do you have a router? I don't know about non-router scenarios, but you don't need ZA for just outbound. Windows Firewall will also work well enough if you don't have a router, or so I've heard.

It will work if one doesn't fail at configuring it. Problem is most users fail.

I'm still on my SP1 firewall and it does its job. My wondows setup is heavily unpatched and this firewall is for some reason, holding up.

avast antivirus, free, pretty much on par with norton for ease of use, but it actually catches problems (gasp) and will do a boot time scan of viren if you want it to. all you have to do is register, which is free, then you plop in the key they give you, and you are good for a year, then all you have to do is re-register. http://www.avast.com/

AVG + it can actually detect viruses = definately not.
For example it didn't detect some obvious MSN virus that I was sent several times and even when I was hex editing it, it was happy as ever with it.
Good thing I wasn't a moron and didn't run it. AVG has terrible detection rate in tests it's been in too, not that it's particulary bad for a free AV, but it's worth anything if you can get anything else that's better, free or otherwise.
