Using Firefox

I downloaded Firefox but when i open it i get a message saying that it is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections...how do i fix this?

preferences-> general-> connection settings, then find a proxy that isn't refusing connections (or directly connect)

Why would the profile be autoconfigured to a proxy? Where did you download the install?

where do i find preferences->general->connecton settings?

for me it's in the edit menu, but i seen to remember it being under tools in windows.  that might be ie though

Tools > Options > General tab, click on connection settings. (Thats for windows. In linux its under edit)

Because Edit is not the proper place for preferences. This is a quirk from Netscape/Unix people (and probably Macs too, I don't know). Why the fuck would Preferences go in Edit? Just because "Edit Preferences Lol" sounds straightforward? Edit is for TEXT EDITION, i.e. copypasta, undo, search, replace, etc., not preferences.

This is not to say Tools is great for it, although it's certainly better than Edit. I would place it in File, although it's not perfect either.

'Tools' works, but configuration should just be a separate top level menu.
