DVD burning problems

I'm backing up anime and such off my hard drives, and I'm burning a surprisingly large number of coasters. I'm using Dynex DVD+Rs and a relatively new Sony DVD+/-R/RW drive. When I use the "verify written data" option in Nero 6, I keep getting "error reading sector" problems, and thus bad discs.

I know cheap discs (like my Dynex ones) can cause poor results, but a 5 to 1 fail to success rate seems even worse than I would expect from that. Any suggestions?

>>1 a 5 to 1 fail to success rate
No, that sounds about right. 100% failure rate is even more realistic.

Suggestions:
Upgrade firmware.
Buy better media.
Profit.

Furthermore:
Choose -R over +R. (Sony fails at +R)
Buy an OEM drive (Sony is just a rebadged LiteOn)

signed for -R

+R is a superior format because of superior phase alternating tracking and error detection. Use +R unless you're burning pirated games for Sony's consoles.
