FastStone.

Like XnView, but you can left-click zoom. Renders thumbs pretty quickly.

I doubt anything is faster than ACDSee classic. Those people had their shit together back in the 90's.

Have you actually used Picasa2?

I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it has a loooong way to go. And it sure as fuck ain't fast.

You, sir, are wise and kind.

Problem is, it only loads thumbnails of pics which are currently onscreen (ie I have to scroll down so it loads more thumbs). I can't seem to correct this.

What do you mean by "loads thumbnails"?  I just tried pointing Vix to some directory it hasn't seen before, waited a few seconds and then scrolled down.  All the thumbnails were already generated.  I closed Vix and started again... and scrolling down, didn't see any lag in loading the thumbnail cache.

i recommend XnView because it caches the thumbnails, and you can choose for it to store very lossy thumbnails so that they'll load uber quick.

ACDSee 3.22 free

why that exact version?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 19:15

I'm here to inform that vix has beaten acdsee 3.22 and faststone, among others, in building thumbnails faster. Still gotta test picasa, and I'm pretty sure xnview won't be any faster than acdsee.
Although, thus far, faststone's interface is the one that caught most of my attention.

Don't change these.
