Use HOSTS instead.

Firefox's adblock extension can block whole domains, directories, pages or objects within a page. Easy.

It only blocks images, scripts, objects, and embedded pages but not full pages. If I adblock a domain, i can still see the index.html and all other pages but there won't be any images, and etc so the formatting will look like crap. At least, with the plain adblock.

Adblock plus isn't a bitch that eat all your memory like adblock does.
The only blocking system I use is flashblock because flash is evil, i've found that blocking ads is useless, some good sites need'em to live on, and sites that annoy you with a lot of this crap are 99% of the time just a bunch of shit, so I just get out.
