the best way is to get an upgrade to DSL or better. 56k just plain sucks. and no, there's no program to prevent disconnection. it's at the provider's discretion.

There were a bunch of "stay connected" programs on shareware sites about 10 years ago... for Windows 3.1...

lol! look around your ppp connection options for a redial option; that's what I use on linux.

If you had a program or batch that intermitantly pinged something, that's would prevent you from disconnecting because of idling. You can't do much about a hardware disconnect.
