Laptop processor in a desktop?

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-20 19:55

I have a Gateway 7405GX laptop that died on me. I suspect physical damade to the mainboard, since I was kinda rough with it. I'm trying to salvage as much of it as I can, and it does have a 2.0GHz Mobile Athlon 64 3200+ in it. My question is, does this use the same sort of interface as a desktop board? Would a desktop mainboard be able to make use of such a processor? And if the answer to all this is yes, then how do I find out the socket type of the mobile processor?

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

They both seem the same to me. Of course, it would be easier if you could get me the part number. In short, if you've got a socket 754 desktop MoBo, then it should work.

Don't change these.
